If you are an ordinary person and not Elon Musk disguised as a human trying to go back to his red planet, you’d most probably find the new logos of Google apps to be super weird and totally hated them. But why would a technology giant make such a big mistake!! Or is it not a mistake but a super creative way of Branding?
So why is Google changing its logos? Does it have anything to do with Marketing or Psychology or a subtle inclusion of both marketing and psychology?? Let’s go one by one.
All of this rebranding can be drawn back to one simple marketing concept of “The Branded House”. Every time Google launches a new product, it is advertised under the brand name of Google, say google meet, and an advertisement works only when people remember and recall you!!! So what can you do to increase the recall value of something?? Why do you associate “The Nation wants to know” with Arnab Goswami? Why “Bhaiyon Behno” with Narendra Modi? It’s because subconsciously your mind needs something to recall when a specific set of lines are said. This is exactly why brands have taglines. These not only help us create a recall value but also create an image for the brand.
In this current situation, Google probably wants to do the same. So every time you open the Play store to download something, the first thing that is going to catch your attention is not the name but the logo. Subconsciously when you look at the appealing Red, Green, Blue, Yellow colors of Google, you instantly tend to shift your attention to that app and download it because you know when google makes something, it’s free and the quality is super high. On the other hand, imagine when Google launches new software, until and unless you look at the name, you’ll not know it as Google. When you release a hell lot of products, it is wise enough to utilize the potential of one for the growth of another. So for all of that to happen, google must create a perception in the minds of people that these colors signify google. This is probably why they have started to change the logos of all the famous apps you use. So that it’d take way lesser marketing budget to push a new product to the public. And now taking the psychology of colors into consideration the power of Red, Green, Blue & Yellow. It has been proven that Red, Black, Green, Blue & Orange boost sales. With three of the top 5 colors being in its own logo, google must have realized the unused potential of their colors and thought of a way to implement the same in real life. This is exactly what you see right now when you refresh your Gmail. Well played Google.
